Week 6 evidence audit

A short marked exercise: take three published claims about this corpus and say, for each, exactly what evidence would settle it.

All of Assessments

Weight 10%. Due Friday of week 6, 5:00pm. Demonstration assessment — the date and the mark on this site are fictional.

A short piece, deliberately early, so that the habit is in place before A2.

What to submit

Two pages. Three claims, each handled in the same four moves:

  1. State the claim as published.
  2. Name the representation, the specimen and the optimisation level it is about.
  3. Say what it does not establish, in one sentence beginning “this does not show that”.
  4. Name the single piece of evidence that would settle the remaining doubt, and say whether this corpus contains it.

The three claims

  • “The substitution pass expanded every site in the target.”
  • “The graph got smaller, so the deobfuscation worked.”
  • “The lifted module passed the LLVM verifier, so the lift is faithful.”

Two of the three are refuted somewhere in this course’s own corpus. Finding where is part of the exercise.

Marking

Holistic, out of 10. A script that answers all four moves for all three claims and is wrong about one of them scores better than one that answers move 1 and move 4 only.

Demonstration content. Newly written demonstration material for this prototype, using the claim-boundary discipline from comp4020-ass2-Ky787 (src/pages/claims/index.astro)
